| September 28, 2009I'm exhausted. I feel like I've been in overdrive for months now............probably because I have been. Today I washed 10lbs of raw fleece--some merino, columbian, and a coltswold/ramboulett cross. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't rain before it's all dry. Saturday I went to an estate auction and got lots of vintage fabric. That means I need to start cutting fabric and sewing bags to make the money back. I've also started my samples for the October Phat Fiber box. On top of all this I need to get stuff together to list in the Etsy shops. Geez! It makes me tired just thinking about all the stuff that needs to be done.......I'm ignoring the household stuff except for the laundry. Until I learn how to clone myself there are some things that are just going to have to wait, maybe a long time. Who am I kidding, my clones would be tired too!
Katie and Alex were total goof balls this weekend. They decided to dress up like Eric and I. Well, Alex would only dress up like Eric....he didn't want to wear my purple pajamas. Katie looked just like me only shorter strangely enough. They were so funny walking around in shoes that were to big and with our clothes on and acting seriously goofy and laughing hysterically. Eric got pictures but they're on his computer and I haven't been able to copy them yet. They'll stop laughing on Wednesday........they both have dental appointments. We're just going to make a day of it since we have to go 45 minutes to an hour away to go to the dentist. They're happy about that....no school. Eric and I have decided we need a mini vacation. I don't know exactly what we're going to do or where we're going to go yet but we're both getting a little burnt out. We haven't had a break for 3 or 4 years now and it's long past due. We're checking into things in our area because of the cats and the tortoise..............last time we left it cost $200 to have them taken care of for a week. Holy crap! This time we can only go for a day or two so they can fend for themselves.
The leaves are starting to change up here on the mountain and our yard looks like a meadow....Eric never did get the mower running. That's okay, there were lots of pretty wildflowers that we wouldn't have seen if he'd mowed. Well, I've got lots to do and even more to ignore so I better get back to work ;) September 17, 2009I'm so busy I'm losing track of what day it is. Katie informed me I forgot to give her money on Friday.....apparently it was icecream day at school. Ooops. I've been spinning, carding, sewing, knitting, and crocheting trying to keep stuff in the shop and make stuff for the local craft shop. I don't know how that's going to work out but it's worth a try. The September Phat Fiber Video is out....the caddy sax bag I made for the BMH drawing is in the video. I can't wait to get my box!!! I need to start getting samples together for the October box so I don't have to scramble like I did this month. Katie informed me her jeans are to big in the waist and she has to wear a belt. I think she thought I was going to get her new jeans. Not! I told her she got taller and stretched out that belly meat that was there before school started, then I handed her a belt. Alex has been "adopted" by a girl on the bus who is a junior. Apparently the 8th graders catch hell.....mostly because they are loud and obnoxious. Anna (the junior) has indicated to everyone on the bus that Alex is her 8th grader and is not to be bothered. Anna is a very nice girl but she is also big enought to back up what she says. So, Alex has a female body guard.........he's enjoying the heck out of it to because she flirts with him :). Eric is still playing with watches though he is quickly running out of them and we don't see any coming in the near future. The auctions here have been very bad lately with either nothing but junk or stuff is going waaaaay to expensive. What's a body to do? This body is going to go work a little and maybe update my website.
Some curly locks I dyed this week and my Sand in A Bottle purses made from handspun yarn. September 1, 2009HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY KATIE BUG!!!!! (August 27th)
As usual, I'm running late on posting Katie's 10th birthday stuff. I'm still having a hard time believing my beautiful doll baby is 10. Cripes! Where does the time go? She's been making lots of neat stuff with her new stash of Fimo clay..........I love the Viking ship with the little viking getting sick over the side. I didn't get it in the photo, but the viking standing next to the one getting sick is patting him on the back. Oh! The apple trees Katie started from seeds are doing great!! I have no idea where we'll plant them when they're big enough to come out of the pots but Katie is sooo proud she was able to do start them from seeds. Katie has made amazing progress in bike riding. We don't have asphalt here........we have a goat path with huge mud puddles and grass growing in the middle of the road....gravel is scarce and large rocks stickin up are plentiful so bike riding is a bit of a challenge for a beginner. She and Alex have been riding through the mud puddle in the road and coming home covered in mud head to toe. They love it. The puddle is actually about 6 to 7" deep 3-4 feet wide and at least 3-4 yards long..........hmmm, not really a puddle....a small lake maybe. Oh! We saw a black bear on our deck the 2nd day of school. Yep, a real live bear. It wasn't a full grown one but still as big as a large dog. It was right when we needed to go up to the bus stop too. It saw my morning hair and ran into the woods. I know I'm no beauty in the morning but that was over reacting I think. I better get back to work. August 23, 2009Yeah, I know.......it's been over a week. When that happens I'm either super busy or it's been super dull here. No wait, it's never dull here.......it will always be super busy. Okay, we'll start with the kids. Katie had a friend over to spend the night for her birthday even though it is not until next week (on a school day BLAH!). We blew up balloons until we were dizzy, three quarters of a sheet cake, and opened half of her presents............the others will wait until her actual birthday. The suspense is killing her and I'm enjoying the heck out of it ;)! Alex got new shoes.....size 11 wide in mens, no kidding! He loves the clothes he picked out for school....... button up collared shirts with various prints. I was shocked! My son dressing like a respectable young man and it's HIS CHOICE........where did I go wrong? To take the sting out of that he did learn to blow up birthday balloons using only his nose. My husband said it's a talent every boy should have. Great. Eric is still fiddling with old pocket watches. He has 13 of them on his "area" and they are all telling the same time but they are tick tocking at different rates. The sound makes my twitch act up. He took Alex with him to an auction yesterday and on the way home they stopped at the grocery store. Eric got Alex the new issue of MAD Magazine.............he said it was important literature and news that every growing boy needed to keep up with what's going on---he didn't fool me for a minute............when Alex is done with it I will find it on his nightstand. Oh! I have to share this. Eric was digging around in the freezer on Friday and found a package of veil..............dated February 2005. HOLY CRAP!! It looked more like flakey fish after 4 years in the freezer. Apparently it got buried under ice pops which everyone knows never go bad. Guess what he did with it. Yep, he put it back in the freezer...........he wants to see what it will look like in another 4 years. Cripes!
Me, I've been playing with fiber and sewing. Katie and I have decided this year we are going to crochet and knit scarves and hats in an effort to destash the acrylic yarn in the house. Her school asks for donations of hats and scarves around Christmas to give to needy families in the area. What a great way to destash the acrylic! I finished one set last night and Katie is working on a scarf. We'll see how many we have by December. I've joined the Etsy Fiber Arts Street Team and signed up to be a contributor to the PHAT FIBER SAMPLER for September with the theme of "Legends, Folklore, & Fairtales". I had to scramble to get enough samples together to get my own free sample box but it's ready to ship on Monday. I also spun up a skein of purple, brown, and white art yarn with fabric, ribbon, trim, beads, and novelty yarn that I'm debating on whether to keep for myself or not. It's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Well I've got tons of photos to edit, shops to update, and something else that I've managed to forget. Happy Sunday! August 12, 2009I know, its' been awhile. I don't know whose idea it was to kick my life into overdrive but if I find them I'll be doing some kicking of my own. I'm so busy my head spins with all the stuff that needs to be done. It's times like this I wish I could find my frontal labodomy coupon because I think it is the only way things would slow down to a reasonable pace. Okay, here we go......
Katie came back from the beach and she's brown as a biscuit. I don't know any grown woman that wouldn't be jealous of that tan........I know I am. It's hard to get a tan when you're in front of a computer most of the day. She had a fabulous time and remembered to bring Eric and I back a baggie of sand from the beach. Yeah, we collect sand from various places. I know it's weird BUT it is free so no one ever has a problem bringing home a little baggy of sand. Alex missed her dreadfully but won't admit it.......must be that teenage boy thing. I think he's grown 3 or 4 inches this summer.......he's taller than I am. Yes, I know I'm short but it still doesn't seem right. His feet are enourmous!! I tried on one of his sandals that he's almost out grown and they were about 2 1/2" to long for me. Katie and I think by the time he's fully grown we could go sailing in one of his shoes. The kids are excited about school.........I guess Eric and I have bored them to death (our evil plan worked!). Katie got the new man teacher this year and Alex is excited about going to a new school and having a little more freedom than they did in the elementary schools.
Eric is happy..........he finally has 2 red tomatoes on the vine. We have lots of green ones but only now are they starting to turn red since we haven't had many really hot sunny days required for red tomatoes. He's also got a large green pepper and some really bushy basil. I know this doesn't sound like much but when you live in a place where the deer think your garden was planted just for them to eat this is alot. I've been spinning some art yarn , putting together kits for the BMH shop, and sewing up some needle cases and Caddy Sax bags in hopes that folks will be thinking about pulling out their needles and hooks soon with fall around the corner. Where did the summer go? I feel like I missed it constantly working and having no time for yardwork (my yard looks like a meadow) or taking the kids up to the lake swimming. I still need to do that before they go back to school. I feel bad we haven't done more stuff like that but when it boils down to do you want to go swimming or live in a tent under a bridge well, it's not a really hard decision. I'm sick of this computer and photos...........I'm going to go sit outside and watch the grass grow...even more. Well, Katie went to the beach today and will be gone for a week. I started missing her yesterday and she hadn't even left yet. I know, I'm pathetic. Alex left this morning too to spend the night with a friend but he will be back tomorrow......I guess I'll live. My problem is I really like having my kids around. They are old enough that I don't have to wipe noses and bottoms anymore (you cannot imagine how grateful I am for that) but now they are old enough to enjoy as their own individual little persons with their goofy sense of humor, wild imaginations, inquisitive minds, and those sunny smiles and infectious giggles (and the occasional snort). Yep, I miss my kids and I know Eric does too. I will admit, it is nice to have a little time that it is just Eric and I. We went grocery shopping.......he's such a romantic......and he held my hand in the parking lot. He's such a sweet heart. Sometimes we get so caught up in figuring out how we are going to pay the bills and making sure the kids are okay we forget that WE are people too, most of the time. Okay, enough pondering the deeper thoughts and emotions..........I just don't have the energy for it.
I've been spinning and sewing..............what's new right? I love the new Caddy Sax and stole one for myself---it's Perfect for socks!!! I also started spinning some crazy art yarn and got this gorgeous stuff with lots of coils and granny stacks around a soft feathery novelty yarn. I need to make me one of these needle cases........I really like this gold colored one, still thinking about stealing it from my shop. I'll give it the 3 month test.........if it doesn't sell then I keep it. Well, I still have tons of pictures to edit and of course the house is a wreck. Hmm, maybe I'll just have a drink and watch the grass grow..........the rest can wait another day, it is Saturday after all. | |
