Cabled Fingerless Gloves

I’m cold all the time, really. My hands are the worst and get stiff when they are cold so I decided to make my own fingerless gloves so that I could keep my hands reasonably warm and still type, knit, crochet, drive, etc. Now if I could just think of a way to chew gum and walk at the same time life would be great.

I would consider this an Intermediate pattern as you are knitting in the round with double pointed needles, cables are involved, and dealing with a "flipped" pattern for left and right hands.

Here’s what you need:

* 2oz( 2oz, 3oz, 3 oz.) Dk or light worsted weight yarn

* Size 4 double pointed knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)

*row counter

*beginning round marker

*crochet hook size f for weaving in ends

*2 stitch holders

*2 cable needles

Gauge

5 stitches and 6 rows =1" in stockinette stitch

Stitches

K = Knit

P = Purl

I = Increase, knit in front and back of same stitch before slipping to right needle

Sizes

child or teen extra small (fits 6" to 6 ½" hand circumference) women’s small (fits 6 ½" to 7" hand circumference), women’s medium (7" to 7 ½" ), women’s large (7 ½" to 8")

I would suggest adding ½" to your actual hand size so you will have some "wiggle room" in your gloves. For example, my hand is 7" and I can wear the small but they fit like, well gloves so I prefer the medium as I have more room for movement.

TO BEGIN

1. Cast on 34 (38, 42, 46) stitches over 4 needles with stitches as follows:

LEFT GLOVE RIGHT GLOVE

Needle # One 10 (11, 12, 13) top 7 (8, 9, 10) palm

Needle # Two 10 (11, 12, 13) top 7 (8, 9, 10) palm

Needle # Three 7 ( 8, 9, 10) palm 10 (11, 12, 13) top

Needle # Four 7 (8, 9, 10) palm 10 (11, 12, 13) top

2. Knit one round placing stitch marker after second stitch worked

3. Begin P2, K2 ribbing and work in ribbing pattern for 2"

4. LEFT GLOVE: Knit 3 rounds increasing 1 stitch of the 1st row on the 4th needle by knitting in front loop and back loop of same stitch before taking it off of the left hand needle.

RIGHT GLOVE: Knit 3 rounds increasing 1 stitch of the 1st row on the 1stth needle by knitting in front loop and back loop of same stitch before taking it off of the left hand needle.
